Windrush 65
Windrush 65 is an event celebrating 65 years of the first “West Indians” coming to Britain on June 22nd at Tilbury Essex 1948 on the SS Windrush .
We are acknowledging and celebrating our presence in Preston. Cricket was the sport that broke down a lot of barriers and helped the community to integrate.
We are celebrating with a 20/20 cricket match, Lancashire’s finest Dj’s Des Grant, LJ, Slen Dagga, and Special Guest Singer /Song writer Stephen Bayliss.
Preston Steel Connection – Steel Band.
Some of the Carnival Troops will be there too, displaying their costumes
Everyone is welcome, this is a Preston Community Event.
Sunday 11 August at Preston Cricket Club from 12 pm to 4 pm. Free entry.

We’re looking for articles and pictures for our next News Sheet.
Thanks to everyone who has already sent contributions, it will be out in a week or two.
The revised deadline for this issue is Sunday 5th May. If you can’t get your copy to us by then send it anyway and it will go in the next issue.
Why not write about your interests – someone in the community will surely be interested too! it doesn’t have to be an essay, a couple of hundred words would be great and a picture is worth a thousand words! You can send phone pics to 07772504644

And don’t forget, we have a competition for a title for the news sheet, £10.00 shopping voucher for the winning suggestion. We have a few suggestions already, why not add yours – you might be lucky! We need a name that reflects our African and our Caribbean heritages and our base in the Preston area.
Preston Caribbean Carnival Committee and Preston Black History Group are looking for photos from Preston Carnival through the years . . . especially pre 2006. Next year is the 40th anniversary and it would be great to have pictures from the early years. Do you have any photos that we could scan and use in next years celebrations? We’ll be having a scanning sessions at Jalgos on Tuesday 21st May at the Lunch Club and we’ll organise more scanning sessions after this years Carnival so that we can preserve these precious memories. Let us know if you have photos to share.
